Camping Birthday Party

Our sweet Twins are Christmas babies. Having a birthday so close to the holidays has always proven tough: how do you plan an event to celebrate their special day, when there are several other special days to compete with? This was our first year giving them a full-on birthday party - they let their party planner know what theme they wanted, and who to invite for their big day!

Their only request was that the party be camping themed; they love to cozy up in their sleeping bags, make forts around our home, and go on scavenger hunt adventures with Mom and Dad. Unfortunately, another potential challenge with holiday birthdays is the temperature; we wanted to have fun activities for the children to enjoy inside our home, and so a camping theme was going to be a difficult one to pull off. But the party planner (sometimes also referred to as "mom") was not going to let these little ones down. So I called in the troops.

First, thanks to the amazing Malia at Studio M Limited, each child had their own personalized hand cut and stamped teepee adorned with their name. Malia creates theme based gifts and bespoke event decorations, including personalized gifts - engraved crystal, embroidered towels, bags and hats, custom tees - all of which come wrapped and ready for givingThe twins are obsessed with their teepees and proudly display them in their rooms.

I worked closely with Deanna at Cake and Flower Paper on their invitations and scavenger hunt cards. I gave Deanna an idea of my vision and she effortlessly brought it to life.  I adore her whimsical watercolors accented with fresh bright colors....they are so cheery!  Deanna does everything from cards to gift tags. The kids had a blast hunting through our home for flashlights, gummy worms, trail mix, flowers, pine cones and fake bugs...all in which they were able to take home in their treat bags. I'm no stranger to Deanna's work, she also designed stationery for the kids' letters to Santa.

Culinary expert Caroline with Caroline's Kitchen Table prepared and styled all the food for the event. The snacks were kid friendly and piggy backing off the camping theme, complete with scavenged berries, "firewood" pretzel sticks, and ham and cheese sleeping bags. For dessert, even Mom and Dad enjoyed savoring the delicious dirt cups (chocolate pudding and Oreos!), shortbread teepee cookies, and out of this world chocolate birthday cake with butter cream cheese frosting she lovingly prepared.

The little metal pales, birch straws, vintage glass milk bottles, and rustic wood pencils, wood utensils are all from Weddingstar.com. They have an amazing selection of gifts, favors, decor, and accessories. Dozens of beautiful balloons created the perfect backdrop for pictures, and the kids loved camping with the canoe and the S'More the Merrier Campfire Set from Land of Nod. Truly, it was such a special day. Thank you to everyone who helped make this party come to life!

I’ve listed all details & sources below to make your next event as easy as possible!

We still can’t believe that our Twins are 4 - what a blessing they are!
